Running Away

He boarded the bus

With a one way ticket,

The son of reckless alcoholic,

He was made to wear his past

Thoughts of shattered glass

 and pavement made him sick.

In a town where everything reminded him,

He closes eyes as

The day sky again grows dim,

He will be a better man

He is not his dad

He will be a better man

And he drifts to sleep.

*

But do men ever escape their past?

The Nephilim were brave fighting men of old

Heroes of renown

But who were their fathers?

Even so, then as now,

The sun went down.
