The snow settled, and the tracks of the
Train cut the blanket of white,
And the carts rested in still inertia
But the shipment goes out tonight,
As the bundled figures moved
The giants of steel and hydraulics
To fill its belly with freight.
Quieter today, and filled
with brief small talk,
Because of what’s missing.
A skeleton crew
Since yesterday’s layoff,
And living with this
Check is going to be rough.
